Recent Job Posting Of Apple Lead To Location Based Features Coming Up

Posted by iunlock under News on Tuesday Sep 20, 2011

With the recent job post for the position of an iOS QA Location Engineer in Apple, it only tends to prove more that they are working double time on making better the location based features of their iOS devices. This built in location based feature experience revolves around the bundle applications of Google Maps. This is an aspect where Apple is eyeing a great opportunity for improvement; and hence led them to hiring more people to be part of their location team.

The said job posting states that the potential candidates should be well versed with the algorithms for GPS and other navigational systems. This suggests that the traffic database of Apple in real time would soon be in the form of a navigational solution. The job will be based in Cupertino, California where the headquarters of the company are found.

All that we can hope is that these features will also be present in iOS 5. However, we think that the chances for this are quite slim. On a larger scale, Apple is still using the images from Google Maps aside from their acquisition of various mapping companies like Placebase and Poly9. The iOS 5 include the reminders which are located based as well which is the sole location based feature on the iPhone gadget right outside the application of the Maps. There are also a lot of patent filings and other job listings posted by Apple that are yet to be applied in the future.

What else do you want to see in iOS that fall under the location based features aside from the turn by turn navigation?

Apple Job Posting starts Rumors on Apple TV

Posted by unlocker under News on Monday Mar 14, 2011

There is a job vacancy in Apple as the company is looking for people who will work on the next generation power supply technology. The job listing goes like this:

“You will be part of pride developing innovative designs, which are implemented in products used by millions of people. The position primarily involves high-density offline power supply’s development for Apple’s next generation Macintosh platforms spanning from notebook computers, desktop computers, servers, standalone displays and TV.”

It is important to note that in the ad, Apple differentiated the standalone displays and TV’s by clubbing them separately in the listing. The job listing then led to numerous speculations that Apple could be working on the Apple TV, the area where Apple has not been able to conquer much. This is not the first time that we will hear rumors about speculations that Apple is planning to make its own brand of TV.

In 2009, there were reports about the possibility including a report from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Muster who commented that this is a possibility. This recent post relives the speculations again. If you will check the job listing again, there is a slight change in the job posting. Apple has edited the earlier job description and the “TV” bit has been changed to “Apple TV”.

What do you think of the idea of playing your favorite games on the Apple Television with iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch as the controller? Are you not excited? We would love Apple to make their own TV set.
