Amazon Reveals Kindle Fire Tablet at $199
Posted by iunlock on Friday Sep 30, 2011 Under NewsAfter several months of numerous rumors and other speculations, Amazon has finally released a tablet that is named as Kindle Fire right during the media event held in New York City. Kindle Fire is a tablet that is Android based with an IPS display measuring seven inches and capable of multi touch. It is powered by a TI OMAP4 processor that is set at dual core. It has a weight of 14.6 ounces and it has a price of only $199.
It is also packed with built in storage of up to 8GB and its battery can last up to about 8 hours of continuous reading use or if for video playback, it can work up to 7.5 hours with the WiFi feature switched off. It runs on a heavy skinned version of the Android. Amazon also says that this has finally painted the drawbacks of its rough surface especially with an interface that is more accessible. It will allow users to have access on the services of Amazon which include Amazon Prime, AmazonMP3, the Amazon Kindle, the Amazon AppStore and also Amazon Instant Video.
It has also rolled out a brand new browser that is set specifically for Kindle Fire which is called as Amazon Silk. Many are considering it as a browser that is cloud-accelerated split with half of all the work done by the Amazon EC2 or the Elastic Computing Cloud. However, Kindle Fire does not have any camera, or even a 3G connectivity or a microphone.
The CEO of Amazon, Jeff Becoz released brand new three eReaders from Kindle: one is for $79, Kindle Touch at $99, and of course the leading Kindle Touch 3G at $149 which will be shipped by November 21. The Kindle Fire is being assumed to be the killer for the iPad. But in our own view, I think it is not appropriate to compare the two gadgets especially with the Amazon item only at 7 inch screen, an 8GB storage plus the absence of the mic and the camera. However, one can say that it still has sufficient features and a practical functionality that could create a huge appeal on a wide user base. This is especially true with Amazon offering their gadget in an attractive price range.
There are already videos released that show the demo of the Kindle Fire. So what do you think of this?
