We need to watch out for the big announcement from Apple about the next generation of iPad. This is the information received by Kevin Rose, the founder of Digg, from a reliable source. The announcement will be made in the next 3-4 week, probably in February 1st.
Kevin wrote in his own blog post, “I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.” However, he later clarified that another source told him that while the display on iPad 2 will be of higher resolution than on the current generation iPad, it will not be retina display like iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G.
There are probably two reasons that prevented the inception of retina display in the second generation of iPad. First, the hefty price of the retina display such as in the case of iPhone 4 as it is pretty expensive. Second, a larger retina display is needed to match the clarity of the iPhone 4, which is not possible in current technology.
Kevin Rose has been inaccurate with Apple rumors. The possibility of a second generation of iPad this February seems unlikely since Apple just released iPad in early 2009 and started taking pre-orders last March. Moreover, Verizon is most likely to announce Apple iPhones on its network on January 11 and release it on February. However, nothing is official yet and we cannot say the final word.
