The earlier release of sn0wbreeze version 1.3 was botched by some minor bugs present in the software. After careful consideration and adjustments, iH8sn0w had fixed the bugs and finally releases a new working version to jailbreak and unlock iPhone OS 3.1.3, the Sn0wbreeze 1.4. This new software would allow any iPhone OS 3.1.2 or lower to upgrade to the new OS. The dev team describes the software as follows:

sn0wbreeze is a tool for Windows that will jailbreak your iPods and iPhones, setup custom boot logos, activate your iPhone, root partition size, build custom IPSW, and more!

Keep in mind though that 3.1.3 is simply a minor firmware version. You don’t necessarily need this upgrade for your iPhones. However many would still want to upgrade so it is important to keep this reminders in check before doing so.

Before proceeding with the upgrade, check carefully first than you have an iPhone or iPod touch running OS 3.1.2 or lower, which has been previously jailbroken or pwned. This is very important for Sn0wbreeze won’t work if you already have the new OS 3.1.3. This is only suitable for those with a jailbroken iPhone running a lower and older version of the OS.

Aside from the software compatibility, Sn0wbreeze doesn’t also work on all device types and models. Here is the list of devices that can be jailbroken:

  • iPhone 3GS (OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If the 4th/5th digits of the serial # are before 40 then you should have the old bootrom. If your current jailbreak is tethered DO NOT try this.)
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 2G
  • iPod Touch 2G (OLD BOOTROM ONLY. If your current jailbreak is tethered you have the new bootrom so stay away and/or If your model # starts with MC you have the new bootrom so stay away!)
  • iPod Touch 1G

And here is the list of devices it can unlock:

  • All iPhone 2G
  • iPhones with 04.26.08 Baseband
  • iPhones with 05.11.07 Baseband

To find your baseband, go to the Settings app of your phone. Choose General, then about, and lastly modem firmware.

Download the latest version of Sn0wbreeze straight from iH8sn0w’s website.

A general reminder to all: Hacking your iPhone could void its warranty for good. So please keep in mind to be careful of your actions and do them at your own risk. Your best companion in this process is backing up your iPhone for safety.

While Apple’s 3.1.3 firmware was minor in terms of new features, it’s had the side effect of opening up a huge market for scam sites. These sites will promise you a 3.1.3 jailbreak for newer devices like the iPod touch 3G, or a baseband 05.12 software unlock. Those desperate enough to “just give it a shot” will find, 100% of the time, that they were misled. After money has changed hands they’ll be told “well the 05.12 unlock is coming, in the meantime here’s the 05.11 unlock” (of course the 05.11 unlock was intended to be free, as you all know). They’ll hold your money until one day the 05.12 unlock does come out, even if that’s months later (and of course it’ll be relehxxp www(dot)unlock-iphone-313(dot)com ased for free on ). In the meantime they’ll be able to claim they gave you part of what they advertised, and keep at least part of your money (in actuality they’ll usually keep all of it).
