Updated Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether Jailbreak Fixes iBooks DRM Issue

An updated version of the Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether jailbreak can fix the problems with iBooks DRM.
The new version of the untether jailbreak is now available in Cydia. Another team of iOS hackers and developers, iPhone Dev Team, also released an updated version of Redsn0w 0.9.10b5 yesterday that can also fix the iBooks DRM issue.
Online store Cydia founder and developer Jay Freeman or also known as saurik opt for the Corona version since it seems to be an easier option. Saurik even announced in Twitter the availability of the jailbreaks. He tweeted, “Corona 1.0-6: @planetbeing put a lot of work into solving iBooks image loading bugs. All users (however jailbroken) on 5.0.1 should install.”
However, upon installation of the jailbreak, dependency issues arise. Thus, the corrected and released Corona 1.0-7 will be released. The iPhone Dev Team released some details about the fix. “@planetbeing wrote a utility called “crazeles” that overcomes jailbreak detection by iBooks that would cause about 10% of images to show incorrectly. This fix is similar to the “hunnypot” fix that @comex wrote for the 4.x jailbreak,” the team said via Twitter.
Saurik has recommended all users (except for iPhone 3GS with older bootrom) who have jailbroken their iOS device, which includes iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (except for iPhone 3GS with older bootrom), iPad 2, iPad 1, iPod touch 3rd gen, iPod touch 4th gen to install the latest version of Corona 5.0.1 jailbreak from Cydia. So it basically means that it doesn’t matter if you’ve used Absinthe jailbreak or Redsn0w to jailbreak your iOS device, one can install the Corona 1.0-7 jailbreak.
However, iPhone users are constantly reminded to back up their phones before proceeding with the installation of any jailbreak app or updates.

Updated Redns0w Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak to fix iBooks Problem

Posted by unlocker under Jailbreak on Thursday Feb 16, 2012

The iPhone Dev Team released the Redns0w 0.9.10b4 that fix the iBooks and launchd socket related problems.
Just a few days after Corona Dev Team released their own version of iOS 5.0.1 Untether to fix the iBooks issue, the iPhone Dev Team revealed their own version of the fix.
According to the blog post of the iPhone Dev Team, “The b4 version of redsn0w incorporates the 5.0.1 fix for iBooks, and also for sporadic problems with launchctl. Thanks to @xvolks for merging the iBooks (sandbox) fix from @comex’s github into the overall corona untether from @pod2g! As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose).”
The blog post also rendered the readers a tip that when auto-detection fails and tells you that no identifying data was found, one can always select the appropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using “Extras->Select IPSW”.
However, if you’ve already jailbroken your iOS device using Redns0w 0.9.10 then the easiest method is to install the Corona iOS 5.0.1 Untether 1.0-5 from Cydia.
The b2 version of redsn0w includes the fix for launchctl-related issues. One can rerun the redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select “Install Cydia” if you do. Always be sure to do a controlled “slide to power off” shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.
The b3 version, on the other hand, fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again. Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).
