2048×1536 Screen Resolution for iPad 2

We already reported about the possible inception of iPad’s second generation. We also heard a lot of speculations and rumors regarding the Retina Display of the gadget. iPad 2 is expected to be released on the end of March and April.

MacRumors found new graphics in iBooks application that are in need of higher resolution suggesting that iPad 2 may come with a display with twice the resolution of the first iPad. Thus, iPad 2 will have 048×1536 screen resolution at 260 DPI compared to current iPad’s 1024×768 screen resolution at 132 DPI.

MacRumors released a statement saying that, “Based on Apple’s marketing efforts for the original “Retina” display, it would suggest a DPI (dots per inch) greater than 300 to exceed the abilities of the human eye. A more practical approach would simply be doubling the resolution of the current iPad (1024×768) to 2048×1536 at a 260 DPI. While not quite a “Retina” display, it would follow with Apple’s efforts to avoid fragmenting their product line. From a developer’s perspective, the doubling of an existing resolution is much easier to support. Apple similarly doubled the iPhone’s resolution from 480×320 to 960×640 when they introduced the iPhone 4. Like on the iPhone 4, older apps can simply run pixel-doubled while native apps will take advantage of the full resolution of the new screens.”

MacRumor also adds that, “The “Retina” definition is based on a specific distance the device is being held from your eye. Since an iPad display would likely be held farther from your face, it would require a lower DPI to achieve the same effect.” This could also be the reason why Apple is planning to use the next generation GPU in future iOS devices and Cortex A9-based multicore processor.

Aaron Ash brought you Multiflow, which is a popular jailbreak application that has a Palm Pre Expose-like multitasking to iOS last November 2009. He released the application even before Apple revealed the multitasking feature in iOS 4. He also released the revamed version of his application that is compatible to iOS 4 as well as the latest version of the Multiflow (v2.1).

The latest version of Multiflow 2.1 brings back the WebOS Cards-style multitasking interface to the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Multiflow is an application switcher for handsets that are already jailbroken, which is a lot better than the default app switcher. You can close the applications running in the background by either clicking on the X button or flicking the app snapshot up or pulling it down.

The latest version of Multiflow 2.1 for iOS 4 comes with the following features:

  • It can show up to 9 applications in the same screen for convenient task switching and much easier than Apple’s
  • The applications can be dragged and dropped when you rearrange them.
  • Multiflow can work alongside or totally replace Apple’s default task switcher by going to Settings –> Multifl0w –> Activation Methods –> Home Button – tap on Double Press
  • It is also compatible on iOS 3.1.X (but you need to install the free Backgrounder jailbreak app).

You can also choose between Expose and Cards interface by going to the Settings app (Multifl0w –> Switcher Style –> Exposé or Cards). If you want to use the default app switcher with Multifl0w then you need to set Multifl0w’s activation method to something other than Double-Press Home. Multiflow is available for a small price of $4.99 on Cydia App Store.
