An analyst claimed that the next generation of iPad will get a QXGA version of retina display.
Analyst Richard Shim confirmed the details of the upcoming iPad 3 in a correspondence with online publication CNET and said that the new screens are already in production. According to Shim, tech giant Apple, Inc. has three suppliers of QXGA, 2048×1536 panels.
Shim also confirmed that these three suppliers are LG, Samsung and Sharp and the companies have started the production of the lenses.
The second generation of iPad became a big hit to consumers because of the upgrade to A5 processor. However, the iPad 2 has the same 1024×768 screen resolution as the previous iPad. Since the release of iPhone 4 that is equipped with higher resolution retina display, rumors of retina display treatment for the new iPad started.
“It takes a couple of weeks for the production to go to the ODMs (the manufacturers). Then the manufacturer puts them in the housing. Then, that goes off to shipment. We could start seeing finished devices produced in December. And then being ready to be shipped in January. With volumes gearing up in February and March,” Shim said.
Shim also added that Apple’s new retina display will be like an IPS panel, which is similar to the company’s previous devices. This put light to the rumors that the Cupertino-based company will be following the steps of rivals like Samsung in sporting an AMOLED display.
He also said that Apple has been looking at smaller 7.85″ screens for a smaller sized iPad, and he says that they are likely to produce it. He commented that if there is an existing demand for a smaller iPad, then there is no reason that Apple will not produce it. He said that mini-iPad will probably be shipped in the second quarter of 2012.
