Tech giant Apple, Inc. disabled a cool trick in the latest version of its mobile operating system, which is how to make home screen shortcuts for various Settings Toggles.
This site previously reported how to make home screen shortcuts for Settings toggles in your Apple device running iOS 5 without jailbreaking your phone. This trick is nowhere close as replacement for the popular jailbreak tweak known as SBSettings. However, if you are one of the few people who do not want their Apple devices to be jailbroken, then this is an apt solution for you.
However, Apple made a latest version of the iOS 5 with iOS 5.1 and iSpazio reported that the custom home screen will no longer work in the new iOS software update. Through the hack, one can access various Settings toggles via a URL.
It is such a shame for developer and UI designer Jeff Broderick who made home screen shortcuts that Apple users can create for free. Broderick made a web-based “Settings” panel, which uses same URL schemes. Here are the simple steps that you need to follow to make the home screens shortcuts in your unjailbroken device.
Step 1 – In your iOS device, visit Broderick’s website (http://brdrck.me/settings).
Step 2 – Tap on the settings toggle that you want
Step 3 – Tap on the “Install Shortcut” button
Step 4 – You will be redirected on a settings page, which will tell you to install a profile. Tap install.
Step 5 – Tap on Install Now button and then the Done button.
You can skip the steps 4 and 5 by tapping the Share button and then tapping on Add to Home Screen to add the custom toggles to your iOS device’s home screen. Then you will have a home screen shortcut for the Settings toggle that will be created on your iOS device.
The icons that are available in Broderick’s site are still limited. However, mostly-used apps and features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Brightness, Airplane, Personal Hotspot, Notification, Location, VPN, EQ, iCloud and Network.
If you cannot find the Settings toggle that you are looking for, then you can use Clay Russel’s Icon Project, , which provides an easy access to your important settings toggles. Also, you can try the created of Backterimedia. They have created the web-based home screen toggles for all the Settings toggles. Point your iOS device’s Safari browser to (http://icon.bakterimedia.com/). The instructions are on the website.
