Augmented Reality Videos By Hacking IPad and Kinect
Posted by iunlock on Thursday Aug 11, 2011 Under iPad, iPhone HacksYes, we may have heard about the iPad that was hacked to become an iPhone so that you can be able to call and use it for texting as well. Hence, this has been considered to be one of the coolest ever hacks for iPads. The team at Laan Labs which is also the developer of the iOS applications like the AR Soccer has thought if a way to record some 3D data which uses Xbox Kinect and still play it back on iPad 2 with some augmented reality. They have shared how they do it over their blog.
The Open Kinect project was utilized for data recording that comes from Kinect. There is the creation of a textured mesh from the calibrated depth and the rgb data for every frame. It also plays back in real time. Hence, a typical depth cutoff permits to isolate the person right in the video straight from the actual wall and other items in your perspective of reality.
They use the String SDK which projects back into the image marker of the real world in printed form. They also made experiments with actively taking out the image marker right from the scene through some camera data right from the sections that surround the image marker. It is much better if you can check out the video to truly believe its possibility.
They have developed the iOS apps such as the AR Soccer over at iTunes which allows you to play augmented reality soccer in the iPhone.
