Apple to make 7-inch iPad Mini, 4-inch iPhone 5?
Posted by unlocker under News on Sunday Dec 18, 2011Computer world and The Korean Times reported that tech giant Apple is currently working on new devices, a small iPad and an iPhone with a larger screen.
According to The Korean Times, the rumor is from a reliable source in the industry. According to the insider, Apple and LG Display are in talks of the future iOS devices. This includes iPad mini and iPhone 5. Another meeting between the two famous tech companies will take place in the next few days and one of the agenda in the meeting is the introduction of a tablet that has 7.35-inch size.
Another agenda is the new iPhone that will feature a 4-inch display by LG Display. The screen is half an inch larger than the current screen sported by the iPhone 4S. The retina display resolution will not be changed as LCD is a great alternative to cut the cost.
It was recently reported that the 4-inch iPhone is a prototype. However, it was discarded as Steve Jobs did not want the iOS platform to be fragmented with different screen sizes. People are also skeptical with the 7-inch Apple iPad. Steve Jobs said the following in a conference last year:
“Just a handful of credible entrants. Almost all use 7-inch screen, compared to iPad at nearly 10 screen. 7-inch screen is only 45% as large as iPad’s screen. Hold an iPad in portrait view and draw a horizontal line halfway down. What’s left is a 7-inch screen…too small. There are clear limits to how close elements can be on the screen before users can’t touch accurately. We believe 10-inch screen is minimum necessary.
The reason we won’t make a 7-inch tablet isn’t because we don’t want to hit that price point, it’s because we think the screen is too small to express the software.
We know developers aren’t going to deal well with these different sizes and they have to change their software every time the screen size changes.
When we make decisions on 7-inch tablets it’s not about cost, it’s about the value of the product when you factor in the software.
We’re all about making the best products at aggressive prices and that’s what we do, and that’s what we will do with the iPad and iPod.”
Is Apple making reconsideration after Apple started shipping $199 tablet also known as Kindle Fire?
